
Haskayne School of Business welcomes Martin Glynn, Former President & CEO of HSBC Bank Canada and HSBC Bank USA, as the 2009/10 Jarislowsky Fellow in Business Management.
Glynn is an internationally recognized business leader in trade, international banking and finance. He is also an active community champion. Specific dates that he will be at Haskayne are Wednesday, September 23 and Tuesday, November 24, 2009 as well as yet undetermined dates in January, February and March 2010. As the Jarislowsky fellow, his schedule will include student activities, in-class and public lectures, luncheons, receptions and a variety of other opportunities for students, faculty and alumni to learn from him throughout the academic year.

Glynn’s career began with a summer job at Williams Deacons Bank (London). He holds a BA (Economics) from Carleton University and an MBA (Finance & International Business) from the Sauder School of Business (UBC). Commencing in 1972, he worked with Export Development Corporation, first in the summers, and then full time from 1976-1982. In 1982, he joined Hongkong Bank (now HSBC Bank Canada) as Assistant Vice-President, Business Development & Trade Finance. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, and in 1999 was appointed President, CEO and Director of HSBC Bank Canada, a position he held until 2003. He held the position of Group General Manager, HSBC Holdings plc from 2001 – 2006. As part of HSBC’s alignment strategy in North America, he took on the role of Chief Operating Officer, HSBC North America Inc in 2002 and was President & CEO of HSBC Bank USA from 2003 until his retirement in 2006. He continues to sit as a Director of several organizations, including Husky Energy Inc., VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund Limited, Hathor Exploration Limited and MF Global Limited. A strong community supporter, he is also currently a Director of the American Associates of the National Galleries of Scotland (New York), Vancouver General Hospital & UBC Hospital Foundation and is a Former Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
The Jarislowsky Resident Fellow in Business Management is the result of a million-dollar gift to the Haskayne School of Business by Stephen A. Jarislowsky, founder of the investment management firm Jarislowsky Fraser. The gift was matched by the Government of Alberta’s Access to the Future Fund. True to his philanthropic nature, Glynn has directed his honorarium to charitable purposes,
