Chief Clarence Louie was first elected as Chief of the Osoyoos Indian Band, part of the Okanagan Nation in south central British Columbia, in 1984. Since then, Chief Louie has consistently emphasized economic development as a means to improve his people's standard of living. Under his direction, the Band has become a multi-faceted corporation that owns and manages nine businesses and employs hundreds of people. In 1998, the Osoyoos Indian Band Development Corporation was formed to manage and provide strategic direction to the existing businesses and as well as seek out new economic opportunities.

Chief Clarence Louie

Chief Louie will speak on entrepreneurship, taking risks, education, and business leadership in the context of First Nations communities. This presentation will also provide insights into the importance of mentorship and pride in community.

The Haskayne School of Business invites you to a special Insight Lecture featuring Chief Clarence Louie, Chief of the Osoyoos Indian Band, on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 31, 2012.

This lecture is proudly supported by the TD Aboriginal Education Enhancement Program at the Haskayne School of Business. The TD - funded program focuses on supporting aboriginal students in the business school, particularly in their first year, through academic support, peer involvement, and mentorship.

$15/person, includes GST. There is no cost for students.
