Will Tradition Supply Chain Thinking Stand The Test of Time

The literature, MBA programs and consultancies have been touting the benefits of optimizing the global supply chain. In this discussion, we will look at the current supply chain thinking and test whether or not its underlying principles will stand the test of time given the many changes that face the global economy. These changes include the information revolution, Moore's Law, nanotechnology, population changes, climate change, ownership of raw materials, rising standard of living in the BRIC countries, etc. You will leave this session either frightened about the future or inspired and excited for the opportunities that these changes and challenges will present.

Supply chain and Logistics Management: Vision, Organization and What do You Want Written On Your Tombstone?

Vision, Organization and What do you Want Written on Your Tombstone

In our fast paced society the need for change is no stranger to large organizations and in the profession of Supply Chain and Logistics Management the need to change and adapt to the ever changing marketplace may be even more important than change in the parent organization. In the fall of 2009 I was asked to lead a change and implementation effort within ConocoPhillips Canada to redesign the procurement organization. A new name "Supply Chain Management," a new vision, new strategies and a new organizational structure. Our primary focus was to shift from a largely transactional organization to a strategic one. The presentation will provide an overview of the first two years of that journey and a vision for the road ahead.

Any conversation about Supply Chain and Logistics Management would not be complete without addressing the character, integrity and level of ethics as a platform from which me must operate. The presentation will conclude with a thought aligned with Steven Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People," habit number 2: "Begin with the end in mind."

Please RSVP by Tuesday, March 6 to Pat Alger, email pat.alger@haskayne.ucalgary.ca or 403.220.8633.  Refreshments will be provided.
