Bio

Wayne is a senior instructor in the accounting area. He taught full time at the Haskayne School of Business from 1992-1995 and rejoined the faculty on a full time basis in January 2007. He was a part-time instructor from 1988-1992 and from 1995-2006. Wayne received his BComm from the University of Calgary in 1980 and obtained his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1983 and became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charter holder in 2004. Prior to his academic career Wayne worked for 12 years at Price Waterhouse in the audit group and as the manager of the Calgary’s office continuing education program.

Wayne teaches in the area of financial accounting and auditing for our undergraduate students. He also instructs in three courses relating to financial literacy and director education for our executive education area. He also fosters our relationship with accounting professions by instructing courses for both the CA School of Business and CMA Alberta.

Wayne is currently authoring a number of case exams for the CA School of Business, a chapter in an introductory accounting text, several self published textbooks on accounting for entrepreneurs and non-financial managers along with study guides for the CMA entrance exam and the accounting sections of the CFA level 1 and level 2 exams. He has received funding from the Chartered Accountants Education Foundation for developing a study guide for an auditing course at Athabasca University and for designing the computerized lab component for the intermediate financial accounting course at the University of Calgary. He has also received funding from the Royal Bank for the development of an Internet based accounting course and has co-authored the Canadian edition of a US accounting textbook.

He was nominated for teaching excellence awards by the Student’s union at the University of Calgary in 1989, 1993, 1994 and 1998 and received an honorable mention in 1997 and the actual award in 2004. He was nominated for an excellence in teaching award at Mount Royal College in 1995 and was the recipient of Chartered Accountants Education Foundation teaching excellence award in 2001 and 2008. He also won the Commerce Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2008.

In addition to his professional activities Wayne takes an active role in the political process, having served on a number of volunteer boards for riding associations and he enjoys spending time with his five children and four grandchildren.
