Co-sponsored by the Haskayne School of Business and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, since its inception in 1993 the Distinguished Business Leader Award has recognized outstanding leaders in the Calgary Business Community.
This award is a means of honoring individuals whose exceptional demonstration of vision and leadership, sound business sense and commitment to the community has marked them as role models for future generations of business leaders. 2008 marked the establishment of a scholarship in the annual recipient name to be awarded to a Haskayne business student each year.
The DBLA Gala also provides an opportunity to encourage interaction between Haskayne's management students, members of the business community and the Chamber of Commerce. The Scholarship also includes an honorary membership to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.
Nominees must have:
The nominee, in the event of being a selected winner, must be open to invitations to participate in several Faculty of Management activities, including the February 2010 Business Day Conference.

In 2008, the Haskayne School of Business announced a desire to create a scholarship for future Business Leaders out of the revenues generated by the Distinguished Business Leader award gala event. By working with the University of Calgary Student Awards office, the Haskayne School of Business will ensure that each year the award will reflect the talent and the vision of each new DBLA recipient.
The amount of the scholarship will be determined by the revenue generated by the event thanks to event sponsors and ticket sales. Scholarships and awards are often the greatest assistance that students will receive in their university career. By reducing financial barriers, students are then free to focus on dreaming, learning and succeeding on a path to becoming our future Business Leaders.
