Academic Courses

Entrepreneurship & Innovation Option for non-Haskayne Graduate Students

An exciting opportunity for graduate students at the University of Calgary to learn about entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking through specialized coursework offered through the Haskayne School of Business.

ENTI 201: Introduction to Business Venturing

ENTI 201 is an introductory course open to non-business students. Students will create a new business venture through opportunity recognition and research. Students can register for the course through My UofC.  

ENTI 317: Entrepreneurial Thinking

A highly experiential course that challenges Haskayne students to think entrepreneurially - to seek opportunities and find ways to turn opportunities into viable business ventures. This course culminates in the RBC Fast Pitch Competition.

ENTI 559: Startup Incubator

Startup Incubator was created to help University of Calgary start-ups to build upon their strong business idea, and desire to learn how to rigorously test their value proposition, and intelligently scale. The course has been designed to support students who are passionate about continuing their entrepreneurial journey, and build on a foundation for a new venture that has already established through previous entrepreneurial education and/or experience.

Creating Prosperity through Entrepreneurship - March 22, 2017

You are invited to join the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, in partnership with the Institute for Liberal Studies, for a keynote presentation that explores the absence of economic freedom in Africa and how entrepreneurship can help fuel an economy, through the workings of Magatte Wade, Founder and CEO of Tiossan.

Wade, a self-professed “African serial entrepreneur”, will delve into key strategies for creating economic growth in challenging climates and how North America can better support African entrepreneurs and the cause of economic freedom in Africa.

Case Competitions and Hackathons

ProtoChallenge 2017 (March 31-April 1)

ProtoChallenge is a 24 hour challenge where groups of students pitch ideas to help the community and build a prototype to gain skills, find potential employers, and win prizes. Some of the perks include access to our resume database, learning from experts, and food! Free for undergraduate and graduate students and $5 for new graduates. What do you have to lose?

Haskayne 24 Hour EPIC Case Challenge (March 2 - 4, 2017)

The Haskayne 24 Hour MBA EPIC Case Challenge builds on the success of the past 7 years, with a unique focus on a complex global challenge of national or local importance - a so-called 'wicked problem'. Powered by the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Haskayne School of Business, this three day event challenges 16 teams as they work through the EPIC Case with the support of Challenge mentors over a 24-hour period, presenting their 'solutions' to a panel of esteemed judges in an elimination style tournament. Teams of MBA students from across the country will work around the clock (literally) to compete for $15,000 in prizes awarded while exhibiting their creative and analytical skills and connecting with some of Calgary's top executives.

Summer Options for Startups 2017

The Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is pleased to support two unique initiatives to support students engaged in start-up initiatives at the University of Calgary.  Undergraduate students from across campus are eligible to complete a newly created business incubator course in the Spring/Summer terms, ENTI 559 – Startup Incubator.  Graduate students who have developed the initial foundations for a start-up venture are eligible to apply for the Summer Incubator Program, offered in conjunction with Innovate Calgary.

Pitch Competitions

RBC Fast Pitch Competition (April 8, 2017)

The RBC Fast Pitch Competition represents the culmination Entrepreneurial Thinking (ENTI 317) at the Haskayne School of Business. The top 12 teams from the year pitch in the RBC Fast Pitch Competition to compete for more than $100,000 in cash and in-kind prizes.

Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (November 2017)

A global competition for undergraduate students who own and operate businesses.  If  you are a registered undergraduate student and you’ve owned and operated your own business for at least six months, you could win capital and in-kind prizes from the Entrepreneurs’ Organization, the premier global business network for entrepreneurs.
