Bio

Carol began serving as the Vice-Provost (International) on July 1, 2008. Previously, Carol served for three years as the Provost's Advisor on Collaborative Relations.

Carol's home department at the University of Calgary is the Haskayne School of Business where she has served as interim dean and vice-dean.  Her areas of expertise are management communication, business/strategic planning, management education, organization development, and post-secondary education enrolment management.

Carol taught in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Haskayne School of Business, which included international teaching assignments in South America and the Middle East. Her teaching focus was in the areas of management communication, management education, and leadership and change. Carol is the recipient of the 2001 Student Union Teaching Excellence Award for the Haskayne School of Business.

Carol was admitted to the Order of the University of Calgary in 2005 in recognition of her exemplary service in numerous administrative positions.

Prior to joining the university in 1982, Carol held management positions in western Canada in both the retail and the oil and gas industries. Also, she was actively involved in freelance consulting in the area of organizational development between 1981 and 1991.

Carol holds a master's degree in international management and an undergraduate degree in commerce. She is actively involved on a charitable foundation board of directors and in community volunteer activities, and has been recognized on a number of occasions for her contributions to the community, to education and to business.

  • Realignment of university-wide international activities into the office of the Provost
  • Responsible for the strategic direction of the UC Global centres
  • Responsible for the University of Calgary-Qatar campus
  • Rejuvenation of the university's support network for international students
  • Development and maintenance of an extensive network of domestic and international contacts to promote the internationalization of the University of Calgary
