Bio

Dr. Rowney is a Professor in the Human Resources and Organizational Dynamics area of the Haskayne School of Business. Dr. Rowney received her BScN from the University of British Columbia and her MSc and PhD in psychology from the University of Calgary. She served as the Dean and CEO of the International Management Centre in Budapest, Hungary from 1990 to 1994 and was formerly the Senior Associate Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Rowney teaches Master’s students in Human Resources and PhD students in International Management and Organizational Behaviour. Her research interests lie in the areas of diversity, gender, sustainable development, corporate social responsibilities and international/cross-cultural comparisons.

Dr. Rowney has received many awards and grants including a Killam Research Fellowship (1999), the Macleod Dixon International Achievement Award, the President's Faculty International Achievement Award (2004), the Alberta Centennial Award for Human Rights and Multiculturalism (2005), and she was named one of the top 40 scholars by the University of Calgary (2006).  She has published research papers in numerous journals including the Journal of International Management and the Women in Management Review.

Academically, Dr. Rowney has held visiting professorships in Australia, China, Hungary, Ecuador, America and Mexico. In China she taught an Organization Analysis/Theory course to MBA students and also consulted with industry on restructuring the workplace and managing change. At the Australian Management College she was involved with executive development programs for middle and senior management from Pacific Rim countries.

Dr. Rowney's subsequent responsibilities at the University of Calgary have included the Management/Leadership office and the International Portfolio. She is the Director of numerous projects and institutions including the Centre for International Management at the Haskayne School of Business, the OLADE Project for Latin American Energy, and the Sustainable Energy Development Master’s program at the University of Calgary.

In addition to these activities, Dr. Rowney has been involved in numerous external activities, including directorship of the International Organization Development Institute, Chairperson of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada for Doctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships, membership in the Executive Council for the Canadian Association of Graduate Schools and the Canada Council International Cultural Committee. In her spare time Dr. Rowney enjoys hiking, golf, skiing and yoga.
