Leo Donlevy is a Senior Instructor in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation area at the Haskayne School of Business. He attained an MBA degree in 1995, following a career in the commercial printing industry as an owner and manager.
Mr. Donlevy's teaching duties have centered on the field experience component of the MBA program, for which he recruits the client organizations the students work with and facilitates the students learning. He has also taught several entrepreneurship elective courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to for-credit courses, Mr. Donlevy has taught several Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization courses for many organizations including Alberta Agriculture and the Technology Innovation Centre in Kingston, Jamaica. He also facilitates the project component of the School's Business Essentials program.
Mr. Donlevy's research interests include growth challenges for owner-managed businesses and corporate venturing. In 1988 he authored the first Canadian edition of Small Business Management, An Entrepreneurial Emphasis, published by ITP Nelson, currently in its fifth edition and is used in over 40 Colleges and Universities across Canada. Mr. Donlevy co-authored "A Note on the Efficiency and Effectiveness of Outsider Assistance Programs in Rural versus Non-Rural States," published in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice in the Spring, 2002 edition.
Mr. Donlevy has served on several local and national trade and non-profit Boards of Directors, including the Canadian Printing Industries Association and a three-year term as President of the Printing and Graphics Industries Association of Alberta. He is currently President of the Calgary and District Soccer Referees' Association and a member of the Referee Development Committee of the Alberta Soccer Association.
Mr. Donlevy holds a private pilot license. He is Regional Referee, Provincial-level Assessor and Instructor, and member of the Referee Development Committee of the Alberta Soccer Association with responsibility for the Assessment Program for Southern Alberta. Mr. Donlevy counts golf, winemaking and woodworking among his hobbies. Mr. Donlevy is a native Calgarian, married, and a father of four.
