Dr. Wael Jabr joined the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary in July 2011. He holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Texas at Dallas. He also holds an MBA and a Master of Science in Management and Administrative Sciences. Before starting his Ph.D., Wael worked for five years as a GIS consultant and trainer in project management.
Wael's research investigates user-generated content (UGC) in online social media. His work studies the dynamics of UGC, the value it generates to users and the role of businesses in managing such content. He investigates the economic and operational dimensions of user-to-user interactions in multiple settings including peer-to-peer help in technical support forums and electronic word-of-mouth in online opinion forums. His other research interests include business intelligence and social networks in online environments. He presented his work at the Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS 2009 and 2010) and the INFORMS Annual Meeting 2010 where he won the eBusiness best paper award.
He currently teaches MBA courses in Information Systems and undergraduate courses on eBusiness. Prior to joining Haskayne, Wael taught Business Intelligence and Introduction to MIS at UT Dallas.
When not doing research or teaching, Wael spends his time with his wife and two daughters. He also loves travelling and has been so far to twenty countries in three continents.
