+ At the University of Calgary, an Open Studies student is a student who is not admitted to a program leading to a degree or diploma, but who is permitted to register in credit courses.

* A Visiting student is one who is admitted to the University of Calgary to take courses to transfer to a degree program at another recognized institiution. 

**An Exchange student is one who is admitted to the University of Calgary under formal exchange agreements to take courses for transfer to a degree program at their home institution. Home institutions will be notified of the final grades obtained by their students.
