Global Energy Executive MBA Application

Admission Requirements

Applicants for the Global Energy Executive MBA Program are evaluated based on thoughtful consideration on how the Program will help them achieve their professional goals and how the rest of the cohort will benefit from their participation. 

The quality of the Global Energy Executive MBA experience is critically dependent on the diversity and character of the cohort. The admissions committee therefore considers a wide range of factors in its admission decisions and views each applicant from a holistic perspective.

To be considered for admission to the Global Energy Executive MBA, an application should fulfill one of the following three sets of criteria:

  1. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher in the last two years of a four year undergraduate degree, graduate degree or professional degree (e.g., Medicine, Law) from an accredited university AND at least seven years’ progressive work experience; OR
  2. A GPA of less than 3.0 (out of 4.0) in a university degree as described above AND at least seven years’ progressive work experience AND a score of 500 or higher in the GMAT exam; OR
  3. At least ten years’ progressive work experience AND a score of 500 or higher in the GMAT exam.

Applicants for whom English is not a first language must also achieve either:

  • Have a minimum score of 580 (paper-based) or 250 (computer-based) or 97 (with a minimum 20 in each section) (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); OR
  • A minimum score of 7 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each section the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

How to Apply

The University of Calgary uses an online application system to process applications.

Applying to the Haskayne GEEMBA program involves six steps.

To assist you with your planning, please note that the most time-consuming steps of the application are typically: GMAT preparation; receipt of official transcripts (particularly from international institutions); and references.

Step 1: Request an eID and register for a UCID

Follow the instructions as per the link below to secure an eID and UCID:

Account Registration

If you previously studied at the University of Calgary you do not need to create a new UCID; the application system will allow you to retrieve your UCID if you have forgotten it.

If you have a staff UCID you will need to register for a student UCID to be eligible for student offers and discounts.

Step 2: Submit online application

Create or resume your application on the “Graduate Studies” site - Click here

  • Complete online application form
  • Upload current résumé
  • Upload statement of intent outlining professional and educational objectives
  • Download reference form and request references; to be sent directly to Admissions team

Step 3: Pay application fee

To process your application, a non-refundable application fee is required.
The application fee can be paid via cheque, money order or credit card.

The application fee is $125 for Canadian citizens and permanent residents and $145 for international applicants.

Step 4: Request official transcripts

Official transcripts are required from all post-secondary institutions attended.  Transcripts should be sent directly from the registrar of that institution to the Haskayne School of Business.  Official transcripts will be sealed in an envelope with the institution’s official seal.

If the transcripts are in a language other than English official translated copies are also required.

Step 5: Send other supporting documents

Please provide copies of the following and any other documentation requested by the admissions committee:

  • GMAT official score report (if required)
  • TOEFL / IELTS official score report (if required)

Step 6: Attend interview

Once your application is complete, the admissions committee will assess whether you meet our minimum requirements for admission.  If the committee decides to proceed with your application, you will be invited to an interview with one of the program Directors, a member of faculty and an Admissions Advisor.

  • Deadline to apply: July 31st 2018
  • Deadline for submission of all supporting documents: August 10th 2018
