What Does a Risk-based Approach Really Mean?  YAT-SING CHENGCRMA, Associate Director, Enterprise Risk Management, University of Calgary

Mr. Cheng is accountable for the design, implementation, development and management of the ERM process. Prior to joining the University he was the Vice-President of Finance at Hopewell Development Corporation overseeing the strategic direction of the company, including the finance and accounting department. Past experiences and positions include Director, Debt and Investment and internal auditor at Alberta Health Services, external auditor at Ernst & Young LLP and banking and investments at RBC.

Yat holds a Certification in Risk Management Assessment through the Institute of Internal Auditors. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting and finance from the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Contemporary International Auditing: A fine Balance  ALLEN AMYOTTECPA, CGA, CIA, CRMA, Director, International Audit, University of Calgary

Mr. Amyotte is the director, internal audit at the University of Calgary and has held this title since September 2013. Since joining the University of Calgary in May 2010 Allen has held various roles including Director of Financial Operations & Internal Controls where he played a critical role in the successful implementation of new processes and systems, and then as Director, Enterprise Risk Management where he led the implementation of an ISO 31000 based ERM program. Allen’s internal audit experience spans across multiple industries from being a Director of Internal Audit at Calgary Health Region, to Manager of Internal Audit at WestJet Airlines where he co-developed the internal audit function and led the company’s Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance project. He was also a Senior Internal Auditor at TransAlta Corporation. Allen also has extensive experience in tax, having worked at Meyers Norris Penny, Chartered Accountants in Alberta and other firms.

Allen holds an honours baccalaureate degree in liberal arts from the University of Saskatchewan. Allen is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and holds a Certification in Risk Management Assessment (CRMA).
