Approval of Graduate Student/Faculty Projects

What steps do I need to follow to obtain approval of graduate student projects?

The first step is to determine whether the project should be classified as a research project or a 'professional skill development' exercise. If it meets the criteria for a professional skill development exercise the instructor should follow the same steps outlined in the approval of course projects discussion.

If the project is a research project that will develop the student's research skills then it is covered by the Tri-Council Policy Statement. The graduate student should follow the steps outlined by the Conjoint Faculties Research Ethics Board (CFREB). Once the student(s) has/have completed the necessary forms they should be submitted electronically to Jaana Woiceshyn. The Chair of the HSBREC will send the application to HSB reviewers, and based upon their reviews, suggest modifications. Once the modifications have been finalized the application will be forwarded to the Chair of the CFREB.

Data collection cannot begin until a certificate has been sent from the Chair of the CFREB.
