On June 17, 2021 Dr. Chen Fong was recognized as the 28th recipient of the Distinguished Business Leader Award.
Fong spoke about his approach to startup investing and mentorship as he was recognized as the 2021 Distinguished Business Leader Award recipient. The award recognizes exceptional ethical leadership, career success and community service. The online gala was co-presented by Haskayne and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, with support from gala partner Calgary Foundation.
Now known as incredibly networked, Fong says he didn’t understand mentorship until his mid-40s. Taking the spotlight at the event were four emerging Canadian success stories to which Dr. Fong has contributed and mentored: Innovere Medical, Clarius Mobile Health, Cohesic and Validere.
Funds raised from Distinguished Business Leader Award galas have provided scholarships to 65 outstanding Haskayne students since 2008. Fong was determined to exceed previous galas in raising scholarship funds and the total so far of over $318,000 is the best fundraising result in the history of the Distinguished Business Leader Award gala. The online donation platform is still open for contributions to recognized Dr. Chen Fong as the 2021 Distinguished Business Leader Award Recipient. The annual celebration raises money for the Distinguished Business Leader Scholarship Endowment. Fong, in keeping with his driven style, is determined to exceed previous fundraising goals and has started with his own $100,000 contribution.
About the Distinguished Business Leader Award
The Distinguished Business Leader Award is both a celebration of ethical leadership and a legacy to support future leaders. Co-presented by the Haskayne School of Business and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, the award has recognized outstanding leaders in the Calgary business community since 1993. In 2019 we were joined in this endeavour by Calgary Foundation as our gala partner. Since its inception, it has served to honour exemplary Calgarians for their outstanding personal and professional achievements, commitment to community and business acumen.
Each year, the recipient of the Distinguished Business Leader Award is celebrated at an awards dinner. The gala dinner not only endeavours to recognize the exceptional contribution of our community’s ethical business leaders, but also to support our future leaders.
Since 2008, proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorships for the gala dinner have been directed towards the endowment of a scholarship that is awarded annually to a Haskayne undergraduate student who reflects the award recipients’ commitment to ethical leadership.
