UCalgary–CBV Institute partnership opens doors for future business valuators in Western Canada
Calgary, AB – The University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business has entered into a three-year partnership with Chartered Business Valuators (CBV) Institute, Canada’s leading authority in business valuation. The first university partnership of its kind in Western Canada will see successful students exempt from CBV Level 1 certification courses, and ready to provide objective, accurate and defensible financial valuations to local businesses.
The CBV designation is Canada’s premier credential for professionals specializing in business valuation, unlocking significant career growth and earning potential for Haskayne students. The new elective course for accounting and finance students is a unique opportunity to quickly bolster their credentials, preparing them to provide an increasingly popular service to Calgary businesses.
The collaboration marks a significant step in preparing students for careers in high-demand financial sectors, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, litigation support and private equity. The partnership also supports the school's focus on career-ready education.
“Haskayne provides students with a transformative, future-focused educational experience. This partnership with the CBV Institute offers a way for students to enhance their professional credibility in Canada’s high-growth financial sectors. We’re delighted to integrate this opportunity into our academic offerings.”
Dr. Gina Grandy, Dean, Haskayne School of Business
Beginning in the winter semester, eligible students at Haskayne will be able to enroll in this new course as part of their undergraduate studies. Successful completion will count toward the CBV program of studies, allowing students to accelerate their progress toward the designation while completing their degree.
As trade tensions with the United States continue, expertise in business valuation — and the ability to accurately calculate and quantify damages and losses — has become more important than ever.
“Business valuation is a critical function in today’s economy. Whether advising on a merger, assessing economic losses in litigation or supporting financial reporting, CBVs play a vital role in ensuring transparency and fairness in financial markets. We’re thrilled to partner with Haskayne to help develop the next generation of valuation professionals.”
Dr. Christine Sawchuk, President & CEO, CBV Institute
The new CBV pathway at Haskayne empowers students to do work that matters by helping businesses make informed decisions and ensuring fairness and accountability in financial reporting.
