    Seok-Woo Kwon and Bertrand Guillotin were awarded a 2019-2020 Best Seller Award from Ivey Publishing for their business case, "Harley-Davidson: Internationalization In The Trump Era."

    The Journal of International Business Studies (Eyes High Star journal), led by Alain Verbeke as Editor-in-Chief, is now the third-ranked journal in both the business and management categories of the Social Sciences Citation Index, with an impact factor of 9.15.

    Alyson House was awarded best student paper in the Organization Theory division at the 2020 Administrative Sciences Association of Canada conference for her paper, "Business-as-usual: The disenfranchised grief of organization-induced loss."

    Anup Srivastava was invited to join the editorial board of Contemporary Accounting Research.

    Giovani da Silveira was appointed as area editor of Operations Management Research.

    Martin Halek served as President for the Western Risk and insurance Association for 2019, and now serves as Past President for 2020.

    PhD student Steve Granger was elected the student representative-at-large for the Academy of Management's Managerial and Organizational Cognition division, for a two-year term.

    Raj Mashruwala was appointed to the editorial board of Contemporary Accounting Research.

    Yrjo Koskinen joined the advisory board of the Institute of Sustainable Finance, housed at the Smith School of Business, Queen’s University.

  2. Awards

    Bob Hinings and his co-authors Thomas Gegenhuber and Royston Greenwood received the received the Cambridge Digital Innovation Award for Research Impact in Digital Innovation for their paper, "Digital innovations and transformation: an institutional perspective”, Information and Organization, 28(1): 52–61, 2018.

    Lisa Belanger was selected as a 2020 Parex Postdoc Innovation Fellow. These awards are given with the goal of enabling researchers to focus on innovation and technology-transfer activities. Prize of $3000.

    Luminita Enache and her co-authors Eddie Riedl and Lynn Li won a Best Paper Award at the 2019 European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management Interdisciplinary Conference on Intangibles and Intellectual Capital for their paper, “The Disclosure of Good versus Bad News: Evidence from the biotech industry.”

    Mohammad Keyhani and his co-author Anoop Madhok won a Best Paper Prize for their 2019 article in the Global Strategy Journal, “Acquisitions as Entrepreneurship: Asymmetries, opportunities, and the internationalization of multinationals from emerging economies.” Shared prize of USD 5000.

    Oleksiy Osiyevskyy and his co-authors William Wales, Patrick Kreiser, Galina Shirokova, and Karina Bogatyreva won a Best Empirical Paper Award at the 2020 Annual Meeting of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship for their paper, “Risky Business? Integrating perspectives of entrepreneurial orientation as experimentation and advantage to explain firm performance." 

    Tatiana Vashchilko and her co-authors Andreas Schotter and Olha Buchel won the 2018 Best Paper Award for their 2017 article in the Journal of World Business, “Interactive Visualization for Research Contextualization in International Business.”

    Yrjo Koskinen was awarded a Finnish Securities Market Promotion Foundation prize of € 2500 for his contributions to the Management Science article, "Corporate Social Responsibility and Firm Risk: Theory and Empirical Evidence," published with co-authors Rui Albuquerque and Chendi Zhang.

    Alain Verbeke was appointed as a Fellow of the European International Business Academy.

    Bob Hinings received a Citation of Honour from the Top 7 Over 70 Organization for his work as an academic and in the creation of the Doctor of Business degree at the University of Calgary.

    Harrie Vredenburg was honoured as a Peak Scholar in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Knowledge Engagement.

    Jess Chua made the Web of Science list of highly cited researchers in the world for the past 10 years (2008–2018) in Economics and Business, as demonstrated by the production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year.

    Robert Elliott received a Citation of Honour from the Top 7 Over 70 Organization for his work in the field of mathematics and quantitative finance.

    Sandy Hershcovis was honoured as a Peak Scholar in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Knowledge Engagement.

    An international conference - 6th Stochastic Modeling Techniques and Data Analysis International Conference and Demographics2020 Workshop - was held in celebration of Robert Elliott's 80th birthday and in honour of his contributions to Statistics, Stochastic Processes in Finance and Engineering, and his support to Applied Stochastic Models and Data Analysis (ASMDA) and Stochastic Modeling Techniques and Data Analysis (SMTDA) activities. June 2–5, 2020.

    Anup Srivastava and co-authors Ashish Sood and Birendra Mishra received a Best Paper Award at the 2018 Interdisciplinary Conference on Intangibles and Intellectual Capital, for their paper, "Harvest Now Or Invest Further: The dilemma reexamined."

    Jess Chua and his co-authors James Chrisman, Allison Pearson and Tim Barnett were awarded the Greif Research Impact Award in 2018 by the University of Southern California Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, for their paper,"Family involvement, family influence, and family-centered non-economic goals in small firms" published in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. This is a $5,000 annual award given to the researcher(s) who published the most impactful entrepreneurship article six years prior in the top management and entrepreneurship journals. 

    Jess Chua was awarded the Family Enterprise Research Conference Lifetime Influence and Impact Award.

    Justin Weinhardt and PhD student Reiner Schaefer received a Best Paper Award at the 2018 Creating Uncertainty Conference, for their paper, "Knightian Uncertainty: Not a constraint on knowledge, but a constraint on the usefulness of probabilistic reasoning."

    Martin Halek was awarded the 2018 Donald W. Hardigree Memorial Award for Outstanding Paper published in the Journal of Insurance Issues, Western Risk and Insurance Association.

    PhD student Amel Farhat received the Best PhD Financial Econometrics Paper Award at the 2018 Essex Finance Centre Conference in Banking and Finance, for their paper, "When is the Price of Dispersion Risk Positive?"

    Michael Robinson, Michael Meoli, J. Ari Pandes and Silvio Vismara won the 2016 CFA Society Toronto and Hillsdale Canadian Investment Research Award for their paper, “Does Spending Time in the Minors Pay Off?” Value of $10,000.

    Piers Steel and co-authors Vasyl Taras, William Tullar, Thomas O’Neill and Matt McLarnon won the Best Research Methods Paper Award at the 2016 Academy of International Business conference for their paper, “Free-riding in Global Virtual Teams: An experimental study of antecedents and strategies to minimize the problem.”

    Piers Steel’s MetaBUS initiative was recognized by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) as one of 30 “Innovations that Inspire” at the annual AACSB Deans’ Conference in February 2016.
