Russ Girling—President, Pipelines, of TransCanada Corporation—is the winner of the Haskayne School of Business’s 2008 Management Alumni Excellence (MAX) Award. Girling received both his BComm and MBA from Haskayne, plus has continued his education through its Executive Education programs. The MAX Award recognizes the outstanding success of Haskayne alumni, celebrating personal achievement and extraordinary service to the School and the community.

“It is great to have been selected as the 2008 recipient of the MAX Award,” said Girling. “Even being mentioned in the same company as previous winners is a great honour. In a large part, the success I have enjoyed in my career can be attributed to the solid education foundation I obtained in the Commerce and MBA programs at Haskayne. For that I am very grateful.”

Considered an astute business leader in the energy sector, Girling joined TransCanada in 1994. He also serves as Chairman and CEO of TC PipeLines, GP Inc. and Director of Agrium Inc. In 1998, he received a Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 award for leadership excellence, presented by the Caldwell Partners.

Girling is also Director of the Willow Park Charity Golf Classic and has been involved with the United Way, Junior Achievement and the Calgary Homeless Foundation. He has demonstrated dedication to Haskayne by serving on its Management Advisory Council and acting as a mentor in the Haskayne Mentorship Program.

“He is an outstanding role model for the Haskayne School of Business, for the business community and for Canada,” said Sarah Raiss, TransCanada’s Executive Vice-President, Corporate Services, whose testimonial helped Girling receive the award. “His high standards, very high level of integrity and ethics and focus on governance, team orientation and superb results in everything he does, along with his dynamic personality, speak for themselves.”

Girling will receive the award at a presentation ceremony to be held November 20, 2008.
