The Haskayne School of Business welcomes Gwyn Morgan, founding president and retired CEO of EnCana Corporation, as the 2008/09 Jarislowsky Fellow in Business Management.


Morgan is an internationally recognized business leader and a community champion. Specific dates that he will be at Haskayne are Wednesday, Nov. 26 and Thursday, Nov. 27 and then again on Thursday, Feb. 5 and Friday, Feb. 6, 2009. As the Jarislowsky fellow, his schedule will include student activities, in-class and public lectures, luncheons, receptions and a variety of other opportunities for students, faculty and alumni to learn from him throughout the academic year. 

“Helping to develop the business leaders of tomorrow is the most important contribution I can make at this stage in my career,” says Morgan.

“Gwyn Morgan will bring a wealth of knowledge and insights to the Haskayne School of Business,” says Leonard Waverman, dean, Haskayne School of Business. “Our students will benefit from the invaluable mentorship and sense of integrity he has to offer.” 

Morgan led the creation of EnCana through a merger, which is widely viewed as the most significant transaction in Canadian energy sector history. An outdoor and wellness enthusiast, he has received several leadership awards and three honorary degrees. He has been recognized as Canada’s Outstanding CEO of the Year, Canada’s Most Respected CEO and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He strongly believes in the role of ethically responsible free enterprise as a great force in advancing human progress. Morgan is a retired Honorary Colonel of the 410 Tactical Fighter Squadron (Canadian Air Force), serves as a non-executive Chairman of Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., director of London-based HSBC Holdings plc, director of the Manning Center for Building Democracy, director of the Fraser Institute and Trustee of the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education.

The Jarislowsky Resident Fellow in Business Management is the result of a million-dollar gift to the Haskayne School of Business by Stephen A. Jarislowsky, founder of the investment management firm Jarislowsky Fraser. The gift was matched by the Government of Alberta’s Access to the Future Fund. Morgan has directed his honorarium to charitable purposes.
