A new competitive advantage
When Blaize Fabbi, Safety, Facilities and Process Engineering Manager, Luxfer Canada Ltd, enrolled in Haskayne Executive Education’s Business Essentials program, he had no idea the change he would realize and the impact he would be able to make back in his organization.
“I remembered the faculty saying that by the third or fourth session of the program, we would begin to think differently. It was very eerie because that is exactly what happened and the growth just continued to compound over the six months. The program really is very strong, very unique. The faculty would take a different spin on our lessons – focusing on what we needed to know about each topic and how to apply it directly to the workplace. The faculty were not teachers, but instead coaches that helped me to apply the knowledge in my Action Learning Project (ALP) which has created substantial value for our organization and our customers.”
Blaize chose to focus his ALP on the company value chain. He wanted to find a way to reduce manufacturing costs while also producing the highest quality product on the market. When fully implemented, the results of the project look promising – a 12% reduction in raw material costs through the adaption of new technology to create a superior product – giving Luxfer Canada Ltd. a new competitive advantage.
“Although I can’t divulge all the details – I can say this project is a win-win for everyone. More sustainable margins for the company and superior quality for the customer at a reasonable price point. Not only has my project been approved by my company, but we are now in full execution mode. I am using all the skills I learned in Business Essentials to make the project a success. Finance, strategy execution, presentation skills, leadership, and negotiations – you name it. If I learnt it in the program, I am applying it. The post program support has also been amazing. I am still receiving guidance and mentorship from the Haskayne faculty. I’m excited to realize the potential value this project can bring to our organization and our clients.”
“The Business Essentials faculty were supportive coaches who helped me to apply my new knowledge in in my career. As a result, my program project has directly resulted in manufacturing cost savings while introducing a new premium product to the market”
