Together with the Faculty of Graduate Studies, we offer the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Option to equip graduate students with the fundamental skills of entrepreneurial thinking that will allow them to become successful, real world innovators. The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Option features two courses that provide graduate students from all faculties with hands-on experience to discover business opportunities, determine their feasibility, and build strong business models to transform their ideas into fully developed ventures.

ENTI 625 - Introduction to Entrepreneurship

Open to non-Haskayne graduate students only

ENTI 625 is an experience-based course covering the prestart-up stage of business development through group projects and case studies designed to provide experience-based skill development in creativity, idea generation, and feasibility analysis. This section of ENTI 625 has been designed specifically for students with no formal training in business.

Offered: Fall 2023 Block Week, August 28 - September 1, 2023

Eligibility: Masters and PhD students in any discipline (except the MBA program) who are in good standing at the University of Calgary and have support from their supervisor.

Credit: 3 credits

ENTI 627- Venture Development

Open to MBA students and graduate students from other faculties

Known as the 'Hot House', ENTI 627 is a newly redesigned course that engages teams in the development of a new venture (startup). As part of the application process, students are asked to identify a compelling idea, opportunity or problem that they would like to develop in this course (which may or may not be related to work completed in ENTI 627 or ENTI 625). This course is open to students in the MBA Program and other graduate programs (Masters and PhD) at the University of Calgary.

Offered: Winter 2024

Eligibility: Masters and PhD students in any discipline (including the MBA program) who are in good standing at the University of Calgary and have support from their supervisor.

Prerequisite: ENTI 625 or ENTI 601

Credit: 3 credits

Applications are currently being accepted for ENTI 625 in the Fall Block Week. 

We recognize that graduate students have a lot of demands on their time, so our goal is to make your participation in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Option as seamless and hassle-free as possible. Below is an overview of how the program will be delivered, and we invite you to send us any questions you have to entrepreneurship@haskayne.ucalgary.ca.

  1. Watch the recorded information session to learn more about the E&I Option here.
  2. Submit your completed application by July 7, 2023.
  3. Applications are reviewed by the program team and approved students will be contacted.
  4. Approved students will be asked to confirm their interest by submitting a change of course form to entrepreneurship@haskayne.ucalgary.ca.
  5. Confirmed students are enrolled in their chosen courses (ENTI 625) by July 15, 2023.
  6. Students attend ENTI 625 in Fall 2023 block week (Aug 28 to Sep 1, 2023).
  7. ENTI 625 students will be invited to participate in various programs and events offered during the Fall 2023 semester to help them continue working on their ideas before choosing to register for ENTI 627 (if desired).
  8. Students who have confirmed their interest in taking ENTI 627 will register by submitting a change of course to entrepreneurship@haskayne.ucalgary.ca and, upon approval, begin the course in the Winter 2024 semester.

Graduate students are required to pay normal Haskayne tuition for ENTI 625 & ENTI 627.

Please note: Haskayne has differential fees in addition to the typical graduate course fees.

Non-Haskayne Students

To apply for the E&I Option, please complete the application form by July 7, 2023.

MBA Students

For MBA students interested in registering for ENTI 627 in the Winter 2024 semester, you can do so as you would any other course.
