Trading Software Overview

The Lab has the RIT Client installed on all computers.  This software is used both for instruction and for practice working towards trading competitions.

RIT User Application

The RIT User Application, together with it's Real-Time Data (RTD) link to Excel, is used to connect students to the RIT simulations.  The RIT User Application provides flexibility that allows the user to tailor their workspace to the simulation and to the analysis they wish to do.  The link to Excel provides a real time link to simulation data that allows the user to model the simulation and make decisions based on the modelling.  The RIT User Application also connects with an Application Programming Interface (API) that allows VBA, Python, R, C+ to send commands to the RIT Application to make trades.

Trading Competitions

Traditionally there have been three trading competitions that use RIT simulations and the RIT Client.  The first is the BP Energy Trading Competition held near the end of September which is generously support by BP Canada and involves trading energy commodities.  This event is open to any student at the University.

The Western Invitational Trading Challenge (WITC) has been held at the University of Calgary and is open to schools in western Canada that have RIT licenses.  The cases run at this competition are similar to those traded at the Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC).

The RITC is hosted by the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto in February.  Fifty two schools from around the world gather in Toronto to trade simulations of equities, commodities, fixed income, options, open outcry and algorithmic trading.
