The course will show students how to find and extract financial data from Bloomberg, Factset and Capital IQ data feeds, and how to use the data in the context of the finance material taught at the Haskayne School. It also give students experience in a real time trading environment, managing a simulated trading book as information arrives. The course emulates many aspects of a trading floor, as used for investment management, risk management and speculative activities.
A comprehensive hands-on review of the modern theories and applications of portfolio management. Students will be responsible for completing the fiduciary duties of an actual fund manager, reporting to a Board of Trustees. Topics may include: selecting securities, hedging with covered options, benchmarking a portfolio, financial reporting, evaluation of risk, risk/return tradeoffs and management. The Calgary Portfolio Management Trust (CPMT) was established in 1995 as a joint venture between the University of Calgary and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society Calgary.
