UCalgary CHART Disclaimer and Terms of Use
1. Purpose and Permitted Use
The Calgary-Haskayne Adaptive Research Tracker is an institutional benchmarking and research intelligence tool developed by the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary (UCalgary) for the purpose of:
- institutional or faculty level research, analysis, benchmarking and reporting;
- planning, administering, monitoring, evaluating and supporting evidence-informed decision-making for UCalgary-approved operating programs and activities; and
- comparative benchmarking across participating Canadian business schools.
The CHART is intended solely for non-commercial research and educational purposes and must not be used for any other purpose unless expressly authorized in writing by UCalgary.
2. Privacy Statement – No Personal Information
The CHART dashboard is operated by UCalgary in accordance with the Alberta Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and contains only aggregate, de‑identified, and non‑personal data derived from underlying datasets. UCalgary warrants that:
- no individual faculty member is identified or identifiable in the dashboard outputs;
- individual‑level information is used internally only to support accurate aggregation, attribution, and validation of institutional metrics; and
- non-personal included in the dashboard has been de-identified in accordance with a data quality assurance process consistent with generally accepted best practices to prevent re-identification.

3. Reserved Rights and Grant of Limited License
As a user of the CHART, you acknowledge and agree that:
- the CHART and its entire contents, features, methodology, source code and functionality, are owned by UCalgary, its licensors, or other providers of such information or material and are protected in all forms by intellectual property laws in accordance with UCalgary’s Intellectual Property Policy; and
- UCalgary grants users a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access, view and use the CHART and aggregate outputs for lawful non-commercial academic, research, planning, reporting, and informational purposes in accordance with these Terms of Use.
4. Attribution
Users of the CHART must cite or reference CHART results, provided they do so accurately and distinguish between official CHART-Index benchmark results and CHART-IF scenario results.
Users understand that CHART-IF results are scenario-based outputs that depend on the parameters selected by the user, including settings such as time period, journal list, indicator weights, citation measures, and comparison basis. Flexible results must not be represented as official CHART-Index rankings. Any reference to CHART-IF results should clearly identify the results as scenario-based and disclose the key assumptions used to generate them.
4. Prohibited Uses
CHART is not designed or intended for individual identification or performance evaluation and users must not use the CHART, directly or indirectly, to:
- identify or attempt to identify any individual or access, extract, download, scrape, copy, or reconstruct underlying record-level data;
- re‑identify or link data with other datasets to infer personal information or otherwise attempt to re-identify individuals;
- rank, profile, or evaluate individual faculty members or support employment‑related decisions (including hiring, compensation, tenure, promotion, workload assessment, individual performance management or discipline); and
- create derivative datasets or analyses intended to assess individual‑level performance.
By accessing CHART, users also agree not to, directly or indirectly,:
- copy, reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit the CHART‑Index or CHART-IF in any form or medium whatsoever without UCalgary’s prior written consent;
- attempt to decompile, reverse engineer, or interfere with CHART, dashboard, reports, data model, or platform;
- circumvent technical protection measures or use automated bots, scripts, crawlers, or scraping tools to extract underlying datasets;
- misuse the dashboard in a way that could reasonably create misleading, inaccurate, or inappropriate conclusions about individual faculty members or institutions
5. No Warranty and No Reliance
CHART is provided for informational and planning purposes only and is made available “as is” and “as available.” While reasonable efforts have been made to use documented methods, reliable data sources, and validation processes, to the fullest extent permitted by law UCalgary:
- makes no representations or warranties, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or fitness for any particular purpose of the data, reports, rankings, scores, calculations or outputs;
- disclaims all liability arising from reliance on CHART for decision‑making and is not responsible for any loss, damage, claim, liability, or expense arising from or related to access to, use of, inability to use, interpretation of, or reliance on CHART dashboard, data, reports, or related materials; and
- users are entirely responsible for interpreting CHART results appropriately and in context and acknowledge that data may be affected by source availability, reporting conventions, indexing practices, and availability.
Users of the CHART assume full responsibility for any use of the data or outputs should consult the published methodology and, where appropriate, seek clarification before making material use of the data or outputs.
6. Acceptance and Modification
By accessing or using the CHART, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and that UCalgary may:
- modify the CHART, its methodology, or these Terms of Use at any time without notice; or
- suspend or discontinue access to the dashboard at any time for any reason.
Continued use of CHART constitutes acceptance of any updated Terms of Use.
