Program

The Haskayne Flexible MBA is a pathway designed for working professionals that typically takes students around 28 months to complete, but can be accelerated or extended over a longer time if the student’s personal and/or professional situation changes.

The Haskayne Full-time MBA is an immersive full-time study experience for early to mid-career professionals; the 16-month pathway is structured to enable students to explore career opportunities through a summer internship after the first year.

Note that minimum admission criteria are the same for both programs; international (visa) students are not eligible to join the Haskayne Flexible MBA.

The Haskayne Executive MBA is targeted at senior-level professionals who have already achieved significant success in their careers and typically manage a team, business unit or organization. The teaching style is designed to leverage the collective experience of the cohort. In addition, additional support is provided to enable the students to be effective learners despite the fact that they have not been students for potentially many years.

The Haskayne Flexible MBA typically takes 28 months to complete. Students who previously completed an undergraduate business degree or Master of Management (MMgmt) in Canada or the U.S. may be eligible to take the Haskayne Accelerated MBA.

The Haskayne Flexible MBA is primarily a classroom-based experience, with students attending in-person classes. Faculty may supplement classroom learning with online tutorials and course materials through the university's learning management system to support class preparation and review. In addition, students have the opportunity take some elective courses in a flexible online format.

Students in the Haskayne Flexible MBA pathway have the option to specialize in one of five areas:

  • Innovation, Strategy and Entrepreneurship
  • Energy Management and Sustainability
  • Project Management
  • Finance

The Haskayne School of Business is an AACSB accredited business school, a recognition awarded to less than six per cent of business schools worldwide. In 2026, Haskayne was ranked as a Top 8 University in Canada by the QS World University Rankings.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a Masters in Business Administration; if an individual fulfills the relevant requirements, their specialization will also appear on their parchments and transcripts.

Candidates who have previously completed a business degree or Master of Management (MMgmt) at an accredited Canadian or American university may be eligible for up to five course waivers and should consider the Haskayne Accelerated MBA. Please contact our admissions team for more information.

The Haskayne Flexible MBA is a flexible pathway designed for working professionals. Courses are typically delivered in block week and evening format. The pathway typically takes students around three years to complete, but can be accelerated or extended over a longer time if the student’s personal and/or professional situation changes.

In the case of missing an individual class, students are expected to make arrangements with their faculty member and study team. If you travel extensively during the week and meet with minimum admission criteria, the Haskayne Executive MBA may be a better fit with your needs.

No. This program does not accept transfers.

Domestic candidates who have been accepted into the Haskayne Full-Time MBA pathway, but have not yet commenced their studies may be able to transfer to the Haskayne Flexible MBA pathway depending on capacity.

Student experience

Students typically study one block week class and two evening classes (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) during Fall and Winter semester, and choose to study one or two evening classes during Spring and Summer.

Students in the Haskayne Flexible MBA pathway typically study, complete class work and group work for 20-30 hours per week (more in block weeks).

The Haskayne Flexible MBA is a flexible pathway designed for working professionals. Courses are typically delivered in block week and evening format. The program typically takes students around three years to complete, but can be accelerated or extended over a longer time if the student’s personal and/or professional situation changes.

Several classes will be completed with a cohort, which will help you form meaningful connections with your classmates. You will also have the chance to take some required courses and electives with a mix of individuals from different cohorts, expanding your networking opportunities.

Integrated throughout are opportunities to network with your classmates, other MBA and EMBA students at Haskayne, MBA students from other universities, faculty, alumni and business leaders. These networking opportunities could take numerous forms, such as case competitions, guest speaker events or the Leadership Development Program.

Admissions

Yes. The minimum admission criteria for the Haskayne Flexible MBA includes a four-year undergraduate degree.

If you do not hold a four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, but you have more than seven years of work experience, you may be eligible to apply for the Haskayne Executive MBA.

No. If you are applying to the Haskayne Flexible or Full-time MBA, you do not need an undergraduate degree in business.

If you are applying to the Accelerated MBA with a Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) exemption, then you must hold an undergraduate business degree. If you are applying to the Haskayne Accelerated MBA with a Master of Management (MMgmt) exemption, you must hold a MMgmt degree.

No. The Haskayne Flexible MBA is designed for early to mid-career professionals who already have at least two years of professional work experience after graduation.

No. If you hold an undergraduate degree issued within the last 10 years, with a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher from a Canadian or an American university, you may be eligible to apply for a GMAT waiver.

If your GPA is between 2.5 and 2.99 (out of 4.0) or your degree was obtained in another country, please contact our Admissions Team to discuss the minimum required GMAT score which will be accepted.

Yes. Please contact the admissions team to confirm the required score on the GRE.

We accept GMAT scores within five years of the test date.

Ideally, we would prefer at least one of the references to come from an individual to whom you have directly reported. Both references should be well-placed to comment on your strengths, areas for development and managerial potential.

There is no need to submit more than two references; we will accept a third reference if you deem it necessary.

There is only one intake of the Haskayne Flexible MBA pathway each year, commencing in Fall.

The Haskayne Flexible MBA admits students, as well as awards scholarships, on a rolling basis. Please apply as early as possible to maximize your chances of being successful.

The application deadline for the Haskayne Flexible MBA is June 1.

Applications will not be evaluated until such time as all unofficial transcripts and other necessary supporting documents are received. Official transcripts are only required if applicants are offered admission.

Of the 300 applicants each year, 120 are admitted. While we review all applicants, the majority of students admitted meet or exceed our minimum criteria.

No, please only apply to one pathway (Full-time or Flexible). Select the option that is the best fit for you at the time of applying. Please make a note on your application form that you are considering both Full-time and Flexible, and then contact our office after you have submitted your application at mba@haskayne.ucalgary.ca.

Tuition and funding

The tuition for the Haskayne Flexible MBA includes course instruction only. You will also be required to pay general fees, which are set annually by the university.

Students should expect to spend approximately $1,500 to $2,000 each year on books and supplies. If moving to Calgary, students can expect to pay $1,100 to $1,900 each month in living expenses.

Yes. Many University of Calgary staff members are eligible to apply for tuition support. Please refer to the University of Calgary's Tuition Support Program page for more information.

The government views this program as full-time for student loan and tax purposes. Haskayne can provide a letter in support of your loan application if required. You will receive a tuition tax receipt (T2202A) each year from the university.

No, we do not accept international applications for our Flexible MBA pathway. Our Full-time MBA and Executive MBA accept international students.
