Bring together business expertise with specialized knowledge in law or public policy. Haskayne’s combined MBA programs allow you to earn two graduate degrees while reducing the time and coursework required compared with completing both programs independently.
The Haskayne School of Business offers combined degrees with the University of Calgary's Faculty of Law and School of Public Policy:
- JD/MBA (Juris Doctor)
- MBA/MPP (Master of Public Policy)
Students in these programs earn degrees from both faculties without completing the full complement of courses required if the degrees were pursued separately. This integrated approach can help you broaden your expertise, expand your career options and make a more efficient investment of your time and tuition.
Combined degrees
JD/MBA (Juris Doctor)
The combined JD/MBA program is a four-year program offered in partnership with the Faculty of Law, combines legal and management studies. It is designed to prepare graduates for positions in fields such as corporate law, commercial litigation, international law, management consulting, government service and politics, taxation, finance and accounting and environmental management.
JD/MBA students typically complete their first year of studies at the Faculty of Law, the second year at Haskayne and the third and fourth years combining their studies.
To complete the JD/MBA degree students must complete 12 MBA courses (out of 17 courses), including the 11 required core courses:
- MBUS601 – Leading People and Organizations
- MBUS602 – Financial Accounting for Decision Making (half semester)
- MBUS603 – Managerial Accounting for Decision Making (half semester)
- MBUS604 – Managing Digital Transformation
- MBUS605 – Data-Driven Decision Making
- MBUS606 – Corporate Strategy
- MBUS607 – Finance for Managerial Decision Making
- MBUS608 – Managerial Marketing
- MBUS609 – Managerial Operations and Supply Chain Decisions
- MBUS610 – Entrepreneurial Decision Making
- MBUS611 – Strategic Consulting Project or ENTI623 - Creative Destruction Lab–Rockies
plus:
- One elective course (three units) in the student's area of interest.
If a student has an undergraduate business degree they may be eligible for core course exemptions; they will be required to complete additional electives.

JD/MBA students are typically admitted into the Juris Doctor program and apply to the MBA program during the first year of studies; a separate application must be submitted for each program.
The application requirements for combined MBA degrees are the same as for the Full-time/Flexible MBA. Applicants from the Juris Doctor program may be eligible for a GMAT waiver if they have a score of 158 or higher on the LSAT.

MBA/MPP (Master of Public Policy)
Offered in partnership with the School of Public Policy, the MBA/MPP program integrates business strategy with policy analysis in a streamlined course of study. Over three years, students build core competencies in economics, finance and leadership while developing the skills to design and implement effective public policy. Graduates are prepared for cross-sector leadership roles at the intersection of policy and business.
MBA/MPP students typically complete their first year of studies in the School of Public Policy, the second year in Haskayne and the third and fourth year combining their studies.
To complete the MPP/MBA degree students must complete 14 MBA courses (out of 17), including the 11 required core courses:
- MBUS 601 – Leading People and Organizations
- MBUS 602 – Financial Accounting for Decision Making (half semester)
- MBUS 603 – Managerial Accounting for Decision Making (half semester)
- MBUS 604 – Managing Digital Transformation
- MBUS 605 – Data-Driven Decision Making
