Program for Board Directors
The Gold Standard in Directors' Education
The Haskayne School of Business offers the Directors Education Program (DEP), developed in partnership with the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
Directors Education Program (DEP)
As a director, you are faced with a formidable list of boardroom responsibilities. These challenges include approving the company’s strategy, monitoring its performance, evaluating and compensating the CEO and complying with laws and ethical standards.
This program is the gold standard for directors’ education in Canada and is a necessary step toward receiving ICD accreditation as a certified corporate director. It is held in four, three-day modules and is designed for experienced board directors.
The ICD is the only professional organization representing the director community in Canada. It is committed to the universal practice of good corporate governance by fostering excellence in directorship.

The ICD-Rotman DEP Diversity Scholarship aims to facilitate the development of a diverse representation in boardrooms across all sectors of the Canadian economy by providing access to governance education, to advance and strengthen directors' contributions to Canada's boardrooms and beyond.
This scholarship program allows underrepresented individuals to gain a strong governance education. Preference is given to those who demonstrate a financial need and belong to one of the following groups: women, Indigenous Peoples, people with visible or invisible/episodic disabilities, members of racialized communities, and those who identify as 2SLGBTQI+ .
The scholarship program has been made possible by the Institute of Corporate Directors, Rotman School of Management, and its network of partner business schools across Canada.

Testimonials
"It's not textbook learning. The power really comes from my peers, through the conversation and the storytelling. The cohort is really carefully selected, which is key to creating a rich environment for sharing. And you layer on that, the case studies, the breakout sessions that force us to reflect, think, and debate. And it's about hearing those different viewpoints, and agreeing on the best — not the right path forward, given the information at hand. And it's about being curious, asking questions and exercising judgment that needs to be modeled versus read."
— Petra Kuret
“After this experience, I lead with the insight, the perspective and the wisdom of not only the instructors and the facilitators, but the peer group with which I worked — and a network of individuals I can call on into the future to continue that commitment to learning.”
