East Meets West Case Competition

The Race for Effective Business and Ethical Leadership

From Feb. 11-13, a joint venture between the Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business (CCAL) and Ivey Business School’s Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership, hosted the annual East Meets West MBA Case Competition in University of Calgary’s Hotel Alma.

A first year student at the Haskayne School of Business, Valentina Castano had the opportunity to time keep some of the presentations at the case competition.

Castano says, “I’ve always wanted to experience what a case competition would be like because I want to participate one day. Seeing the teams bond and really come together for the final presentation motivated me in wanting to be involved immediately. The participants were put under pressure and forced to think on their feet, and it was interesting to see how they reacted as well as their coping mechanisms.”

The weekend was action packed from beginning to the end. The Haskayne School of Business was represented well by MBA students: Kenneth Laurin, Allison Lennox, Jeff Hall and Ellen Campbell. A total of nine teams across Canada participated in the three day case competition, all being put to the ultimate test in searching for the perfect balance between effective business and ethical leadership. There were a number of outstanding presentations and many ideas certainly caught the attention of the judges and audience.

Congratulations go to McMaster University, who went on to become the winners of the competition.

Until next year, East meets West!
