What Will I Learn?
To earn a certificate, students must complete four required courses. This in-person program can be completed in 8 to 10 months, with the flexibility to take two courses per term to fit your schedule.
Organize, store, and manage available data using relational database technologies and generate insights through business analytics techniques.
Discover tools, methods and software packages used in data analytics to collect, organize, and prepare clean data for analysis.
Explore enterprise analysis and management of IT-enabled solutions to business problems. Emphasis is placed on problem identification, requirements determination, process analysis, enterprise architecture design and IT auditing using the COBIT framework.
Discover tools and methods used in data analysis and mapping methods, such as data mining, text mining, machine learning, social network analytics and preference mapping, and their application to business data analytics.
Admissions
To be admitted into this graduate certificate program, applicants must have completed either (a) an undergraduate degree with a GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) in a quantitative-focused area such as Business/Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or Technology, or (b) Master of Business Administration, Master of Management, or (c) an equivalent degree with a GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) from a recognized/accredited post-secondary institution. Prior work experience is not a requirement for admission.
Applicants for whom English is not a first language must complete either:
- IELTS: a minimum of 7.0 on the Academic version, with at least 6.0 in each section.
- TOEFL: a minimum of 97 (iBT version) with at least 20 in each section.

Note: Applicants who do not meet the degree requirements above may be conditionally admitted and will need to successfully complete an introductory course in business technology management (BTMA317 or equivalent) in advance of beginning the Graduate Certificate. If it is determined by the Graduate Program Director that completion of an introductory course is required, that course will not be considered for credit toward the graduate certificate and appropriate tuition rates will be assessed, separate from the cost of the certificate program.
Please note that the certificate program accepts new students for each fall term. Applications open September 15 and close on June 1 each year.

Dr. Patterson, Professor of Business Technology Management (BTM), holds the Haskayne Research Professorship in BTM and serves as the BTM Area Chair at the Haskayne.

Dr. Osman Alp, PhD
Dr. Osman Alp is a Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management and serves as the Program Coordinator for the Digitization for Innovative Supply Chains (DISC) Consortium at the University of Calgary.
