Scurfield Hall is a Buzz with the Resilience of our Students!

The resilience and energy of our students, plus various updates on happenings in Haskayne
Mathison Hall

I have been coming into the office on a fulltime basis, and have been thoroughly enjoying the energy of the building. For me, being back with our students is so wonderful. Even with masks on, it is easy to make eye contact and say hello to our bright enthusiastic students. I know this isn’t the case for everyone, but I feel we are blessed to have a marvelous workplace, able to watch and engage with the next generation of business leaders.

I want to also share with you that construction on Mathison Hall continues on schedule and on budget. In seven months from now, we will have full access to this spectacular new home, with many features that will distinguish Haskayne as a leading business school. We are expected to have access on October 27th. We are planning a community event for our supporters and donors shortly after opening. In mid-November, we will host the Business Schools Association of Canada’s annual conference in Mathison Hall. The opening of Mathison Hall will mark a new era for the Haskayne School of Business, launching us into a bright new future.

April 21st is Giving Day, and this year we have a special offering to “name a brick” in Mathison Hall. It would be super helpful if Haskayne faculty and staff members could participate in this program, which requires $100/month donation for 25 months. Essentially, the cost of a cup of coffee each day for the next two years. If we could get 100 Haskayne staff and employees to participate in the program, we would raise $250,000. Please consider this opportunity to put your name on our wall, and to be a part of giving for Haskayne and for Mathison Hall.

This past week an Accreditation Team from AACSB completed a virtual visit review of our school and our accomplishments over the past five years. Haskayne has exceled in all strategic areas, including innovative research, unparalleled learning, meaningful community engagement, and organizational culture. The Peer Review Team report will be submitted to the AACSB Global Continuous Improvement Review Committee in June, and then to the AACSB Board of Governors for formal approval. The Peer Review Team, made up of three Business School deans (University of Louisville, University of British Columbia, and Concordia University) were very complementary to the school and enjoyed their meetings and interviews with many of the people reading this post. Thank you for your contribution to the process and for representing our school as we strive to achieve our vision of pursuing big ideas and bold leadership.
