Theory Development and Research Development (also known as the Summer Research Project, taken in the spring and summer of the first year)are two of the courses required by all students as well as a minimum of 12 half-course equivalents. In addition, students will choose five field courses in major and minor areas, based on their interests and suggestions from the supervisor. Five research methods and statistics courses are chosen from one of two streams:
Stream A is founded on economics and mathematics and includes courses in econometrics and optimization.
Stream B is behavior-oriented and includes courses in multivariate analysis and qualitative methods.
After completing course work, students write their Field of Study, defend their dissertation proposal, fulfill their two-course teaching requirement and complete their dissertation. While recent graduates have completed their program in four years, typically students take five years to finish.
