Six Faculty Members to receive Citation Award

Six faculty members will be recognized for reaching the milestone of 10,000 citations over the course of their career.

At the Celebration of Excellence event in February 2010, the Cumming School of Medicine Awards and Recognition Committee introduced the 10,000 Citations Award. The award honours faculty members who have accumulated more than 10,000 citations over the course of their career. Less than 0.1 per cent of researchers will accumulate 10,000 citations.  In 2015, six faculty members reached this milestone:  Todd Anderson, Andrew Demchuk, Bill Ghali, Michael Hill, Bruce Pike and Keith Sharkey.

Dr. William Ghali | Scientific Director, O'Brien Institute for Public Health; Professor, Departments of Medicine and Community Health Sciences

Dr. Ghali is a General Internist (MD, University of Calgary; FRCPC, Queen’s University) with methodological training in health services research and epidemiology (MPH) from the Boston University School of Public Health. He recently completed two terms as a Canada Research Chair in Health Services Research, and has also been funded as a Senior Health Scholar by Alberta Innovates Health Solutions. Dr. Ghali has held millions of dollars of peer-reviewed research funding from various agencies, has published over 350 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and has been the recipient of numerous local, national, and international awards. Keith Sharkey, PhD | Professor, Departments of Physiology and Pharmacology, and Medicine; Deputy Director, Hotchkiss Brain Institute; member, Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases

Dr. Sharkey has pioneered fundamental and translational discoveries in the neural control of the gastrointestinal tract in health and disease. His innovative research has provided significant insights into the etiology and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. He is also an expert in the endocannabinoid system of the gut, and has used his knowledge of cannabinoid biology to advise Health Canada.
