As part of the SEDV curriculum, students complete a research project to integrate and apply the concepts learned throughout their program to a practical industry situation. While students are welcomed to pick their own topic and proceed with their project, most opt to work with an industry partner on their proposed topic.
During the Fall term, students develop an interdisciplinary proposal reflecting a minimum of three areas of study, with energy and the environment as the two anchors. Students then continue their work through to August producing a final report prepared in a scholarly manner, logically written, well documented, and professionally presented. The final outcome is a reflection of the student’s ability to make well researched decisions in a world in which energy and the environment have become crucial components to our quality of life.
Additional deliverables, such as a short report, presentations, or others, may also be required to suit an organization’s needs.
Full projects may be found in the university library if the student elected to do so. Please note, UCalgary access is required to view such materials.
Research Showcase
Each Fall the program hosts our annual SEDV Student Research Showcase to highlight our graduating class and their achievements. As this is a public event, students have the opportunity to share their work with students, faculty, partners, and the community through a poster presentation style to encourage connection and discussion.
Would you like to receive an invitation to our next showcase? Keep an eye out on our social media for registration details!
