Q. Who can I contact if I have questions about the Real Estate Development Leadership Certificate?

Q. Who is the Real Estate Development Leadership Certificate program designed for?

Learners come from a variety of fields including real estate development, resort development, banking, government, architecture, planning and engineering. The certificate program is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of learners, from learners with an introductory, personal interest in real estate development to intermediate and senior industry professionals seeking to expand their knowledge of subject areas outside their current specialities.

Q. What do I get out of the certificate?

The REDL certificate provides well-rounded exposure to specialized areas in the real estate development industry. Program participants benefit from practical learning and networking opportunities with industry professionals and a cohort of like-minded co-learners. Graduates of the REDL certificate will attain a formal record of their learning that is recognized among real estate development professionals and positions them for success in the industry.

Q. Can I take a course without being admitted to the certificate?

Q. What course should I take first and where do I find course information?

Courses can be taken in any order. If you want to complete the certificate in as little as 18 months, it is possible to plan accordingly and balance the core courses with the optional courses. Contact Haskayne Executive Education if you would like support in mapping out your course schedule.

Please note HSK 825 Real Estate Development and Finance is a prerequisite course for HSK 831 Real Estate Development and Finance 2.

Q. Is there a deadline for the certificate application?

There is no application deadline for the program as you can take courses to go towards the full certificate in whatever order you would like, rather than a sequence of courses. Applications for the certificate are accepted on a rolling basis and can be submitted at any time. There is one course with a prerequisite: Real Estate Development and Finance 2, which requires you to take Real Estate Development and Finance 1 first.

Q. What is the structure?

Starting September 2022, the courses will be offered in a format that is two full days in length held at the University of Calgary main campus. In addition to the two days, there will be an experiential learning session in an evening and a virtual final presentation session to conclude the course.

Q. Do the courses have assignments and are they awarded a final grade?

The REDL certificate will transition from letter grades to a Pass/Fail system to better reflect feedback cycles in the real estate industry. Instructors will provide robust, actionable feedback.

Q. Can I complete the program in a year or less?

The length of time to complete the certificate averages 18 months based on when the individual starts the program and the course schedule. Seven courses are required to complete the certificate consisting of five core courses and two electives which are generally offered once a year.

Q. Is there a virtual option to attend classes?

This program is designed as two days in-person at the University of Calgary main campus. There is not be a virtual option to attend these classes.
