The Canadian Centre of Advanced Leadership in Business celebrates at the Community for Advanced Leadership Launch Event

CCAL celebrates recent achievements and kicks off the 2015/2016 year

On September 22, the Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business (CCAL) appreciated industry professionals, faculty, staff and students by welcoming them to its very first Community for Advanced Leadership Launch. The breakfast celebrated CCAL’s recent achievements, marked the official kick off for this year’s Mentorship Program and provided a look ahead into the 2015-2016 school year.

The event, hosted by Bruce Edgelow, the Vice President in Strategic Initiatives of ATB’s Corporate Financial Services welcomed Colin Jackson, known for his work in the Calgary Arts World and now at imagiNation 150 as the keynote speaker. Jackson talked on community and celebrated the experiences of three students who shared about CCAL - Mark Lee discussed how the Student Experiences Fund gave him the opportunity to travel around the world, Patrick Rennie retold adventures of his outdoor education and Rachael Gagliardi shared her transformative experience through her mentor’s support in the Haskayne Mentorship Program.

When running CCAL programs, Frances Donohue, the Event and Haskayne Mentorship Program Lead enjoys watching students discover and grow their leadership potential. Among many of her favourite memories, she said, “(They are) the transformational stories that students share with me such as building their confidence, expanding their self-awareness, keeping an open mind and trusting their mentors.” She noted, “Each person has the ability to positively impact someone else by taking at least one action, regardless of how big or small they think it is.”

The Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business will be hosting more community leadership events in the upcoming year. Next month, Dr. Julian Barling, PhD, Borden Chair of Leadership in the Queen’s School of Business, will be coming to give a talk on his work, “The Science of Leadership”.
