Kaylee Somerville, an undergraduate student at Haskayne, presented her study on gendered constructions of leadership at the recent Student Union’s Undergraduate Research Symposium. Somerville’s study aims to test the effect of “brilliance-orientated messaging” on female representation in leadership. Through two studies, Somerville and colleagues explore how brilliance-orientated contexts (currently demonstrated to be perceived as male-dominated) affect women’s interest in leadership positions and affect all people’s decisions to hire female leaders. For her work, Kaylee became one of the two Haskayne students to receive the Best Poster Award. The study was conducted under the supervision of Haskayne faculty members Sandy Hershcovis and Nick Turner.
