The Door to Many More

The Haskayne Mentorship Program

The Haskayne Mentorship Program is an initiative that opens the opportunity for students to be paired with an industry mentor. Students are curious about what it is like to be out there in the corporate world; this is the mentor’s opportunity to share everything they’ve learned over their years of professional experience.

"After discovering the Haskayne Mentorship Program, I was fortunate enough to be paired with a mentor who could guide me through academic and personal choices, to help me achieve many of my goals. They were and still are a role model for me, whom I can count on even after my program had come to an end," says Shelby Peters, a fourth year student at the Haskayne School of Business.

This program is an opportunity for mentors to give back — to a student, to the Community for Advanced Leadership and to themselves. Many mentors comment how much they learn from sharing their professional journey with our inquisitive students.

"I've had great luck in having managers who shared their eagerness for training and improvement. When presented several years ago with this opportunity to do the same for someone else, I couldn't say no," says Mitch Lavallee, CPA, CMA, mentor in the Haskayne Mentorship Program.

Peters believes that every student in Haskayne should have a mentor because students are able to obtain information and prepare for challenges that they can expect when working in the business world. She says, "When you have a mentor, you are learning from someone who has already arrived at where you want to be. You will also have the rare opportunity to gain the perspective of another individual that is already in your field of work that you are working towards. Every student in Haskayne should take advantage of this opportunity.”

Mentee applications are accepted from now until May 15th. If you are an undergraduate or MBA student in Haskayne in fall 2016, you are eligible to apply. It is highly recommended that students register as soon as possible because spots are limited. Business leaders who would like to become a mentor to help us offer more matches can find details here.

Students, if you would like to know more about the Haskayne Mentorship Program, there will be an information session every Monday (until May 9th) from 4:00 pm – 4:20 pm and every Thursday (until May 12th) from 9:00 am — 9:20 am in SH 221.
