The Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business (CCAL) is pleased to announce that Dr. Cari Din has joined us as a CCAL Fellow.  Dr. Din brings consistent recognition and accolades, both formally and informally, for her university teaching excellence. She has won five University of Calgary Student’s Union Teaching Excellence Awards in the last six years. She is a University of Calgary Teaching Scholar, supported by the Taylor Institute of Teaching and Learning (2019-2022).

Dr. Din earned her PhD in Kinesiology with a specialization in Leadership Behaviour. She designed and teaches both the Leadership Foundations and Advanced Leadership courses as a faculty member in the Faculty of Kinesiology. Her Fellowship with CCAL will now bring her expertise to the Haskayne School of Business and the university at large so that more of our students, faculty and community will be able to access her expertise in leadership development.

When asked about her interest in working with CCAL and Haskayne and what impact she would like to have through her Fellowship, she said:

I am truly looking forward to supporting Haskayne students who want to improve their leadership behaviours. In my experience, buy-in to leadership learning is the most influential factor for development – so students who seek leadership growth have a shot at achieving it.  Because leadership is often framed as an innate talent rather than a body of skills and behaviours, a long-term commitment to its iterative development is not always intentionally structured into higher ed programming.

I think my strengths in facilitating experiential learning and the personalization of this type of learning create the potential to positively impact HSB students’ leadership behaviours. We know that developing leadership demands intentional practice, critical reflection, openness to feedback, and ongoing assessment of specific learning goals. My driving purpose is supporting and challenging students in their leadership learning."

Dr. Din is also an accomplished athlete and coach. She is an Olympic silver medalist and as a coach, led the University of Calgary Dinos to seven national titles in a variety of events between 2008 and 2014. Her national presence, commitment to students and their development as leaders, and her enduring ability to make a lasting contribution are only a few of the reasons we are delighted she is working with CCAL and the Haskayne School of Business. Please join us in welcoming her.
