Students develop networking skills at Haskayne Peer Networking Week

Learn a vital skill for new opportunities in the business community

Networking is a vital skill to have – especially when seeking out new opportunities.

Haskayne Networking Week, an initiative run by the Haskayne Career Centre, the Haskayne Students’ Association (HSA) the Commerce Undergraduate Society (CUS), and the Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business (CCAL), helps students learn the art of networking and practice it! Workshops that teach networking skills and opportunities to practice networking, such as the bi-monthly Haskayne Peer Network and special events like Networking with Appetizers and Dress and Dine (both held in networking week) are great experiences offered right here in Scurfield Hall.

CUS President Zeid Ayoub, was one of the many principal organizers running Haskayne Networking Week. He envisioned this awareness campaign would stimulate student engagement and become a tradition in Haskayne, getting students thinking and practicing their networking skills.

“My CUS presidency actually came from networking and from meeting my mentor through the CCAL Mentorship Program,” said Ayoub. “My mentor advised me, ‘You should run for CUS President.’ That advice has been tremendous and it has been the best decision I’ve ever made.”

Networking provides many opportunities to connect. Ayoub does however stress that getting a job should not be the main motivation when going to events. He believes that networking should be learning about different industries and determining what job type is the right fit for you.

“The number one thing networking provides is meeting people and the experiences they share,” said Ayoub. “It’s learning what people value and how you can add value to them.”
